CDAA Sinkhole Trail
The Cave Divers Association of Australia (CDAA) is developing a Sinkhole Trail designed to showcase the spectacular cave diving sites of the Limestone Coast to locals, interstate visitors and international tourists. Working hand-in-hand with local communities and regional councils, the CDAA is focused on promoting the Limestone Coast as one of Australia's premier tourist destinations. The trail will spotlight the history and geology of the region's unique sinkhole and underwater cave systems to make these hidden gems more accessible to everyone, whether an underwater explorer or casual tourist.
While visitors can explore many of these fascinating sites above ground, the trail doubles as an entry point to a premium network of underwater cave systems for CDAA certified divers. With at least 20 world-class dive sites scattered around Mount Gambier, the region accommodates the full spectrum of cave diving ranging from basic sites to highly technical overhead environments reserved for advanced cave divers.
With site names like Hells Hole, The Shaft, Tank Cave, Fossil Cave and Mud Hole there is plenty to explore above and beneath the surface. An exciting new cave or sinkhole will be introduced every few weeks until the trail is complete. It can the be enjoyed as a circular route or on an individual basis, whatever suits.
Important safety & access notice
Please remember that diving is strictly prohibited to anyone who does not hold a current CDAA certification that permits them to dive under very specific conditions. Be aware that almost all of these dive sites are located on private or state-owned land and not all of them are directly accessible. For those that are, visitors are reminded to adhere to the owners’ specific entry regulations, terms and conditions.
